Microsoft exchange hosted filtering service

I was considering using the BPOS for my companies email service, however the Quarantine notifications coming every 3 days is not acceptable to us. I have seen posts stating that Microsoft will change the settings so the junk mail gets delivered to Outlook and stored in the junk folder, however we would prefer not to have to download all of the 'junk' to conserve bandwidth. We like the functionality that Exchange Hosted filtering provides with users being able to access quarantined messages at anytime, and qurantine notifications being sent once a day but being an Exchange enviroment we cannot sync the allowed lists on a per user basis etc If we cannot overcome the users not being allowed to access the quarantine, the notifications being sent at least once a day, and the per user allowed lists then this would not be a good fit for us.

Thank you. Wednesday, December 23, PM. When an incoming message enters EOP, it initially passes through connection filtering, which checks the sender's reputation. The majority of spam is stopped at this point and rejected by EOP. For more information, see Configure connection filtering. Then the message is inspected for malware. If malware is found in the message or the attachment s the message is delivered to quarantine. By default, only admins can view and interact with malware quarantined messages.

But, admins can create and use quarantine policies to specify what users are allowed to do to quarantined messages.

To learn more about malware protection, see Anti-malware protection in EOP. The message continues through policy filtering, where it's evaluated against any mail flow rules also known as transport rules that you've created. For example, a rule can send a notification to a manager when a message arrives from a specific sender.

The message passes through content filtering anti-spam and anti-spoofing where harmful messages are identified as spam, high confidence spam, phishing, high confidence phishing, or bulk anti-spam policies or spoofing spoof settings in anti-phishing policies. You can configure the action to take on the message based on the filtering verdict quarantine, move to the Junk Email folder, etc. A message that successfully passes all of these protection layers is delivered to the recipients.

For more information, see Order and precedence of email protection. EOP runs on a worldwide network of datacenters that are designed to provide the best availability. For example, if a datacenter becomes unavailable, email messages are automatically routed to another datacenter without any interruption in service.

Servers in each datacenter accept messages on your behalf, providing a layer of separation between your organization and the internet, thereby reducing load on your servers. Antimalware protection in Exchange Server helps combat viruses and spyware in your email messaging environment. Viruses infect other programs and data, and they spread throughout your computer looking for programs to infect. Spyware gathers personal information for example, sign-in information and personal data and sends it back to its author.

The antimalware protection in Exchange Server was introduced in Exchange , and is provided by the Transport agent named Malware Agent. The agent scans messages as they travel through the Transport service on a Mailbox server. You configure malware filtering by using:. Antimalware policies : Specify inbound and outbound scanning and notification options for malware filtering. There's a default policy that applies to all recipients in the Exchange organization, and you can create addtional policies that are applied in a specific order.

Antimalware server settings : Specify the error and retry actions, and the engine and definition update settings for malware filtering. Antimalware scripts : Enable or disable malware filtering on the server, and manually download engine and definition updates. For procedures related to malware filtering, see Procedures for antimalware protection in Exchange Server. For more information about the antispam features in Exchange Server, see Antispam protection in Exchange Server.

Antimalware policies control the actions and notification options for malware detections. The important settings in antimalware policies are:. Action : Specifies what to do when a message is found to contain malware.

The options are:. Malware was detected in one or more attachments included with this email. All attachments have been deleted.
