Taur gaming
The combat and research mechanics of Taur are very intuitive so long as the player pays attention to the tutorial notifications which I did not early on, and it showed. During combat, the player mainly uses the Prime Cannon to shoot enemy units while simultaneously building structures that provide extra turrets and produce friendly units.
There is a fair amount of strategy that goes into choosing what structures and units will be the most useful for any given battle. It takes a fair amount of experimenting to figure out what works best for any given scenario, but I really enjoyed this aspect of the gameplay. One of the most enjoyable aspects of Taur is the variation in the types of battles you encounter in the campaign. The Disintegrator is the weapon I used most often as it fires a constant stream of energy that does incremental damage to enemies even after you stop firing on them.
I did have some issues getting used to sensitivity and experienced some lag, but adjusting the settings quickly fixed both issues.
The game runs very smoothly overall and I never once experienced a game crash or freeze. At first, the objective seems simple: take full control of Taurea by defeating the Imperion in battles. Engaging in a battle creates the passage of one day in the game. The bar at the top of the screen indicates what percentage of the planet is controlled by your forces and what is controlled by the Imperion.
Finally, I looked online to see what other players had encountered in their playthroughs to get answers. It was through research online that I discovered that in order to beat the campaign, the player must survive until Day On Day 50, the player is forced into a battle against the Overlord, a massive ship brimming with turrets and deployable units. If the player defeats the Overlord boss, then the campaign ends and the player wins.
However, if the player fails to defeat the Overlord, then the campaign continues beyond Day 50 until the player survives another fifty days so that they can face the Overlord again. In my playthrough of the game, I reached Day 50 and was thoroughly annihilated in the battle with the Overlord.
In the lead-up to the final fight with the Overlord, the battles become increasingly difficult requiring the player to spend more resources in order to acquire new upgrades and replenish their lost forces. This is standard for most strategy game campaigns, but the problem is that the difficulty of each battle is incredibly inconsistent.
There would be many times where I would go on for ten days with consistent wins and then suddenly encounter a battle that destroyed a good chunk of the progress that I had made. Again, the difficulty ratings for each battle feel arbitrary and inconsistent. After failing to defeat the Overlord, I was thrust into Day 51 and continued on from there.
As I continued on, I came to the conclusion that I would not be able to build up a large enough force to defeat the Overlord now that the difficulty of each individual battle had become so high. A generalist turret that deals good damage against all kinds of enemies.
Definitely worth the slots. And then it reloads. For a while. The biggest, baddest and the most expensive Defense you have. Fires heavy rounds that punch right through enemy infantry and explode when they hit their target. Deals heavy damage. Unlike everything else, you can change your weapons whenever, wherever. It just takes a couple seconds of your time. It is accurate and does good damage but suffers from a low number of shots before you have to reload.
You can specialize in this weapon to deal with enemy Armor by unlocking its upgrades in Research. I recommend firing this weapon in short bursts.
You can specialize in this weapon to deal with enemy Shields by unlocking its upgrades in Research. Anti-air missile launcher. You have to track targets to get a lock on them. Thankfully you can increase this capacity in Research. Dual miniguns baby! Sports a very high rate of fire, decent damage for that rate of fire and fast projectiles as well. You can specialize in this weapon to deal with enemy Health by unlocking its upgrades in Research.
Most importantly, you can use this weapon to lob shells over obstacles to hit enemies behind them. Looking at you, the bridge in Standing Rock! Pick a target, press F, and that target and everything in a medium radius will be blown to bits or take heavy damage. Just the fact that you have to unlock ALL other weapons before this one should explain the impact of it. It can get up to damage per hit if you upgrade it to Rank It will make sense when I talk about Reforge.
Abilities are impactful support powers that you can use to dish out great damage to enemies or save yourself in a pinch. They typically have a short run-time and long cooldowns. Hover over the hexagons at the bottom and you will be able to select the icon of your ability to assign to it.
See the colored hexagons at the top? Those are your abilities. You can use them with the hotkeys now. No way to rebind them for now. Slows downtime, but not you. You can still fire, reload and aim in real-time. The game tells you these. All the enemies in that will take increased damage from everything except Guardians for a short time. A mine is dropped to the area, which deals additional damage over time to the enemies in the explosion radius.
You need to have at least one Aegis Shield to use this ability. Just the building, you can use this when your Shield is down. When fully upgraded via Research, and you have all your Rangers intact and out of melee, this ability becomes the most damaging thing you have in your arsenal. Rank 1 of each research is enough to advance on the next item, but some items require multiple previous items to be unlocked.
You can see these by the connections between the nodes. All nodes will require Power to be unlocked and ranked up, as well as a crystal depending on the tier of the item. War Zones : The Taur can only be deployed to one war zone per day, forcing you to abandon the remaining ones. Abandoned war zones may incur loss of control, and their resources are lost, so choose carefully. Resources : Obtain resources by successfully securing war zones. Use them to build new structures, reforge weapons and research new tech.
Forge : Use the Forge to reshape the quality and damage of your Prime Cannon weapons. Research : Unlock new tech to be used in battle. Overlord : In order to win the war and end the campaign, you must find a way to defeat the extremely powerful Imperion Overlord in battle.
