The hard plastic sheath has a unique latching device that holds the knife securely in place, even in rough water conditions and at angle-even upside down. And yet the knife is easily and quickly accessed with the press of a thumb as it is drawn from the sheath. This knife includes the original velcro straps that allow the knife to be worn on either forearm or ankle.

The buckles on these straps also have a very unique design to them in that they have tension springs within them to pull the straps tight, thereby helping to keep the rig in place on your body during movements like swimming. The knife itself is made from a solid piece of stainless steel with holes in the handle to reduce weight knife weights 3.

The blade itself is double-edged and is still in excellent condition, with serrations on both edges. The point is perfect. I only used this knife to occasionally cut nylon rock climbing line 6mm kernmantle It has never been sharpened and still has a nice sharp edge on both sides.

There are some very fine scratch lines on the sides of the blade which are caused by the sheath when inserting and removing the knife. The sheath is solid with no cracks or damage, but there are 3 small places which are lighter color see photo 8 at tip of sheath, also similar places on each side The latch works perfectly and securely. NOW, in addition to being a nice diving knife, it obviously has other uses as well.

I did NOT use this knife in eaither salt water or fresh, but carried it during several outdoor adventures. It's a fine knife for hiking, camping, rock climbing, etc. It would also be a perfect concealed-carry knife, assuming your local laws and ordinances permit such use. I bought it new I believe in the 80's. It worked the last time I used it but it now needs a bulb and bulb contact.

It actually got it to light up with a C to A adaptor. You can still buy batteries for this from Panasonic. These are highly collectible. The switch is inside the back.
