Barely a minute after hitting the post, Benzema scores. The Frenchman sparked the danger with a good attempt at goal which forces Ter Stegen to parry. Carvajal gets to the loose ball and cuts it back across the box, where Benzema is lurking to knock it in.

Real are back in front. Rodrygo bursts forward from the right and tees up Benzema, who holds the ball up before trying to curl it into the far corner.

He ends up striking the post. Real are starting to find their feet in the second half. Marco Asensio comes off, Rodrygo takes his place. Asensio looked to make his mark on the game but his influence had begun to fade and Rodrygo will certainly inject some pace and spark into Real.

Ansu Fati comes on to replace goalscorer Luuk de Jong. It's the teenager's first appearance since injuring his hamstring in the draw with Celta Vigo at the start of November and his first outing since Xavi became coach.

Real's early dominance seems a distant memory and Barcelona are taking all the initiative here. The substitutes are having a big impact and with a bit more youth on the pitch the team are better equipped to press Real high up the pitch. But they need to make their good start to the second period count. Dembele fizzes a shot towards goal with his weaker left foot and it goes just wide of the far post.

The Frenchman was Barca's liveliest player in the first half and is playing well at the start of the second too. De Jong isn't far from scoring again as he gets his head to a cross from Dembele. He doesn't get firm enough contact on the ball and it goes over the bar. Pedri keen to make an impact after coming off the bench and he almost gives Barcelona the lead. The teenager fires a low shot at goal from outside the box and it squirms wide of the near post, with Courtois beaten. Xavi makes two chances at the start of the second period, taking off debutant Ferran Torres and Frenkie de Jong, bringing on teenagers Abde and Pedri.

Real were definitely the better side in the first half but it's as the two sides head into their dressing rooms. Carlo Ancelotti's side were ripping Barca apart for much of the first half, quickly robbing them of the ball and attacking at pace down the left wing. But Barca have shown a bit of tenacity and are level. Not sure it's deserved, but we have a game on our hands now. That's three goals in his last three appearances for Luuk de Jong.

Many expected Xavi to have little patience with the Dutch target man, who was signed on deadline day by compatriot Ronald Koeman. But he started the game ahead of Memphis Depay and has added to his goal against Granada on the weekend and the only strike in the recent win over Real Mallorca. He has scored all of Barca's last three goals. Who would have thought it? Barcelona, somehow, are level. It's a pretty scrappy effort to tell the truth, but the Catalans won't care.

Dembele sparks the danger with a run down the left and low cross in to the box. Real defender Eder Militao goes to clear it but instead kicks the ball against Dutchman De Jong, who watches in delight as it ricochets off his leg and in off the post, past a surprised Thibaut Courtois.

Asensio finally hits the target with his third shot from outside the box but can't get enough power on his shot and it's an easy save for Ter Stegen. But it sounds pretty flat and the game is lacking the edge you'd expect were it being held at the Nou Camp or Santiago Bernabeu. The French winger finds an opening from outside the area and gets some real power on his shot, which flies a few feet over the bar. Barca manage to test Thibaut Courtois again. It's a nice move beginning with a run from Gavi in the middle, who works the ball to Ousmane Dembele and then Jordi Alba.

Luuk de Jong gets his head on Alba's cross but Courtois is equal to the effort. Still, a bit better from Xavi's side. Real take the lead and you can't say it hasn't been coming. The move comes about when Sergio Busquets is dispossessed around the halfway line and Real quickly move the ball forwards. Benzema slips the ball into the path of Vinicius, who is ice cool and slams the ball past Ter Stegen into the centre of the net.

It's yet another end-to-end attack from Real, Vinicius tearing down the left wing and finding Asensio. The Spaniard gets a little closer to hitting the target this time but Ter Stegen is able to breathe a sigh of relief as the shot goes over. There's a year age gap between Dani Alves and Vinicius Jr but so far the Brazilian pair look evenly matched in their jostle on the flank.

Alves may not have his compatriot's pace but he has the experience and managed to dispossess him and stop a dangerous run. Real are destroying Barcelona on the counter here and they nip in behind the Catalans' high defensive line yet again. Vinicius takes on Ronald Araujo and gets a sight at goal but fires straight into the arms of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The Merengues look a lot stronger in the opening exchanges and Marco Asensio is the latest player to try his luck from range after a flowing move from Carlo Ancelotti's side, but the Spanish forward also misses the target.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have the first shot of the game, Benzema trying to curl into the net from outside the box but instead scooping his effort over the bar. Real are having such a good season that they can lay claim to the top two scorers in LaLiga. Benzema leads the way with 17 strikes but second on the list is Vinicius Jr, who has scored 12 times. That's four more times in the first half of this season than the Brazilian managed in his previous three campaigns combined. He certainly took his time to bed in, but now the forward is just the player Real hoped he would be when they plucked him from Flamengo in While Benzema is perfectly oiled, Ferran Torres might be lacking a bit of sharpness tonight on his debut for Barcelona.

The year-old has not played a competitive match since scoring in Manchester City's win over Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup on September He started the season well, starting City's first four Premier League matches and scoring twice against Arsenal.

But once it became clear he was looking to leave for Barcelona, Pep Guardiola took him out of the team. The forward then fractured his metatarsal while on international duty with Spain in October and has not played since then. Karim Benzema has seized on the opportunity Lionel Messi's departure afforded him and has emphatically established himself as LaLiga's best player. The Frenchman's numbers this season are truly outstanding.

He has scored 17 goals in LaLiga and five in the Champions League while adding eight assists across both competitions. He's in prolific mood too, scoring braces in two of his last three matches, in the win over Athletic Bilbao before Christmas and in the thrashing of Valencia on the weekend. Beware, Barca. The one surprise in the Real Madrid line-up was the absence of David Alaba, who has been in outstanding form since joining the club on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

According to Spanish media reports, the Austrian defender was feeling a bit of muscle discomfort in his leg and that's why he wasn't in the matchday squad. But his presence in the final, provided his side win tonight of course, has not yet been ruled out.
